No museum exhibition in history has captured our hearts and minds like King Tut. From 1976 to 1979 a smaller number of treasures from Tutankhamun's tomb were displayed in the United States during a seven-city tour of Treasures of Tutankhamun, attracting eight million visitors and setting show attendance records - making it the most popular museum exhibition of all time. The allure of the King Tut exhibition mystified audiences and influenced everything from fashion, to food, to film - creating 'Tut-Mania' everywhere it travelled.
Already the touchstone of a new generation, more than nine million people have viewed the present-day King Tut exhibitions from National Geographic and Arts & Exhibitions International. Entering its final year, Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs is scheduled to return to Egypt following its 2012 farewell showing in Seattle.
